LADIES CLUB COMPETITION RULES
EXPLAINED
HANDICAPS, EVENTS & PRIZES
To be able to win a major event trophy and gain shop credit all players must have 10 or more playing scores in their world handicap system playing profile, either via medal, role up events or general play with another member/player with WHS status to mark and sign your card before entering into the WHS system.
Each year all golfers must add at least 5 handicap qualifying scores within their WHS account to be able to win prize credit and major events. Please be aware this also includes team events where all players in the team must for-fill the above requirements in order for the whole team to win and or gain shop credit.

The playing record can be viewed on the My England Golf App or the IG booking APP. Please remember England Golf do recommend you enter as many social scores as you can, this can be done over 9 or 18 holes.

All players must have a 10 scores recorded even if you are a single figure handicapper or a high handicapper. We encourage all golfers that do not have 10 scores in the system to put in cards whenever you are playing socially, playing under the rules of golf. If you are entering a social score you must let the pro shop know before starting your round. A full playing record is 20 scores with your best 8 scores averaged out.

England Golf does not want to restrict anyone from playing this game we all love and have the privilege to play.

Competitions Explained

Ladies competitions will be played with WHS handicap allowances :

Individual stroke play, Stableford, Par/Bogey : 95% of course handicap

Fourball/Threeball stroke play : 85% of course handicap

Fourball stableford  :  85% of course handicap

Individual match play : 100% of difference in course handicaps

Foursomes : 50% of combined team course handicaps

Greensomes : 60% of lower course handicap + 40% of higher course handicap

When sufficient entries allow (10 or more) there will be two divisions – the split will be divided according to the handicap range of entrants.

When Trophy competitions are played in conjunction with monthly Medals and Stablefords, the Medal and Stableford competitions maybe  contested by ALL players playing off 95% of their course handicap.  It is only the Trophy competition that has a handicap limit applied.

In order to compete for a trophy a player :

  • must have at least 10 scores entered on WHS
  • must be a HOME Wrangaton player
  • must have played in at least three qualifying competitions

In the event of a tie the winner will be determined by comparing scores on : Best back nine and then, if necessary, best last six, moving onto best back 3 and then best last hole.

In the case of a tie in the Club Championship/Beacon Cup the winner will be determined by comparing the second round scores.

Par/Bogey competition

Handicap allowance : 95% of course handicap

BEACON CUP

36 Hole Medal competition

2 rounds of 18 holes played on consecutive weeks

Both rounds will be played off the same playing handicap i.e. handicaps will not change between rounds

Handicap allowance : 95% of course handicap

Handicap limit : Maximum playing handicap of 36 (Handicap index 35.1 – 35.9)

JOAN COX CUP – LADIES CLUB CHAMPION

2 X 18 Hole Medal rounds

Best GROSS score

Played on consecutive weeks in conjunction with the Beacon Cup

CAPTAIN’S CUP

18 Hole Medal or Stableford  competition – Captain’s choice

Played for on Lady Captain’s Day

Awarded to player with the best net/stableford score on the day of competition

Handicap allowance : 95% of course handicap

No handicap limit.

DORIS GISSING SALVER

18 Hole Medal competition

Handicap allowance : 95% of course handicap

Or,

Handicap limit : Maximum playing handicap of 36  ( Handicap index 35.1 – 35.9)

EASTER CUP

18 Hole Stableford competition

To be played on the Wednesday nearest to Easter

Handicap allowance : 95% of course handicap

Or,

Handicap limit : Maximum playing handicap of 36 ( Handicap index 35.1 – 35.9)

EPERGNE TROPHY

Matchplay knock out competition

Handicap allowance : 100% of difference between course handicaps

Handicap limit : Maximum course handicap of 36 (Handicap index 33.2 – 34.0)

Rounds to be played by stipulated dates

FOSTER TROPHY

18 Hole Stableford competition

Handicap allowance : 95% of course handicap

Or,

Handicap limit : Maximum playing handicap of 36 (handicap index 35.1 – 35.9)

FOURSOMES CUP

18 Hole Greensomes Medal

To be played in June

Handicap allowance : 40% of higher course  handicap + 60% of lower course  handicap

No handicap limit

LADIES SALVER

18 Hole Medal  competition

Handicap allowance : 95% of course handicap

Or,

Handicap limit : Maximum playing handicap of 36 (Handicap index 35.1 – 35.9)

ROSEBOWL

18 Hole Stableford competition

Handicap allowance : 95% of course handicap

NO handicap limit

STAR CUP

18 Hole Medal competition

Handicap allowance : 95% of course handicap

Handicap Limit : For players with a playing handicap of 34 or more ( Handicap index 33.2 – 34.0)

COUNTY COMPETITIONS AND OTHER QUALIFYING EVENTS

COUNTY MEDALS

Only home club players are eligible

A medal will be awarded to a member in Division 1 and Division 2 who return the lowest aggregate net of 3 scores whilst playing in any qualifying 18 hole medal competition at her home club

All Division 1 scores to count for qualifying must be returned on a handicap index of up and including 23.4

All Division 2 scores to count for qualifying must be returned on a handicap of 23.5 to 40.4

ENGLAND GOLF MEDALS

All lady members with a maximum handicap index of 54.0 are eligible.

The player submitting the best 4 individual qualifying stableford or medal rounds will win the right to be entered in to the England Golf Regional finals.  The venue for this changes each year.

COUNTY PRIZE

The County Prize finalists are the winners of  Division 1 (Max Hcp index 23.4) and Division 2 (HI 23.5 – 54.0).  It is awarded to the players who return the best four cards from any number of stableford competitions throughout the year.

The winner of each Division will go forward the following year in April/May to play in a Stableford competition.

Finals for the two divisions are held at various clubs around the County as one competition.

EXPRESS AND ECHO SHIELD

A foursomes stableford competition is played at members’ home club to determine the qualifiers

Handicap allowance : players must have a maximum playing handicap index of 36.0 (if a players handicap is above 36.0 on the day of the finals the new HI will apply and not be limited to playing off a lower handicap)

The first two pairs will represent the club and compete for the shield in late September or early October

PING FOUR BALL BETTER BALL

This is a competiton organized by England Golf.

The club qualifying competition is a four ball better ball stableford competition .

Open to pairs with a handicap index of 54 or less.

Cost : £5 per pair (minimum 2pairs per club qualifier.)

The top 52 pairs from the club qualifiers will make it through to the Grand Final.

The winners of the club qualifier will, normally, receive a prize from England Golf.

CORONATION FOURSOMES

This is a competition run by the R&A.

The qualifying round is played at the club.

Open to all lady members with a current WHS handicap index of 40.0 or under.

Cost : £2 per person

Format : Foursomes with handicap allowance of 50% of combined course handicaps

The winning pair will be entered into the area finals which are held at different clubs each year.

DORIS WILLES LITTLE CUP

A competition organized by Devon Golf.

Format : Foursomes matchplay knock out

Handicap allowance : Maximum handicap index of 30.4.

Matches are played on neutral courses

The pair who will represent Wrangaton will be decided through a competition between those pairs wishing to be considered.  The format of this to be decided annually depending on numbers.

DCVLGA INTER-CLUB KNOCK OUT COMPETITION – QUALIFIER

Format : 4BBB stableford competition

Handicap allowance : 85% of course handicap

Handicap limit : Handicap index of 36.4

The winning pair will represent Wrangaton in the Inter Club knock out competition :

Format : 4BBB Matchplay

Handicap : 90% of difference taken from the lowest handicap

PLAY SUSPENSION RULES (HOOTER/CLAXON) 

Please respect the following guidance:

• 1 LONG BLAST = PLAY SUSPENDED; POSITION OF BALL MUST BE MARKED (IF ON THE GREEN FINISH PLAYING THE HOLE)

• 2 LONG BLASTS = PLAY RESUMED

• 3 LONG BLASTS = COURSE CLOSED, COMPETITION OFF

IF THE COURSE IS CLOSED BEFORE THE START OF PLAY THE COMPETITION WILL BE DELAYED FOR 30 MINUTES. IF THE COMPETITION IS CANCELLED WE WILL RUN A PRO SHOP ROLL UP WHEN THE COURSE OPENS.
