1 STEP CLOSER, PALAIRET TEAM MARCH ON…

Great win for the boys at Staddon Heights against Thurlestone, the wrang boys just keep surprising…

If you were not there you missed a treat…

Firstly, a great days golf at Staddon Heights Golf Club with a morning of heavy showers and a real threat of no play after a week of stunning weather… However, the sun began to shine on the first arrival of both teams making a match up that was a pleasure to witness, two great clubs going toe to toe in one of Devon’s prestiges competitions the Palairet Trophy.

After a little past 1pm the boys were off ! The weather dipped in and out of full 50 factor block and allowed the golfers to truly settle on pulling off some shots that were fitting for the later stages of the Palairet Trophy. Early signs were good for the Wrang boys with a lot of positive walks, fingers pointing up and happy smiles…..and then boom ……Two consecutive wins came from the first pair ‘Club Champ’ Neil Ryder and Chris Harper, swiftly followed by the last pair! Tommy BIG DOG Ryder and Ollie Nute, an impressive display by both pairs to give the game a un-expected early shift in momentum.

As arm forces day retreated from the Plymouth area it was the the ‘A’ team of Thai Scrivs and Club Captain Lee Mundell that truly brought down the hammer with a great win on the 17th hole with a 2 & 1 victory. Swiftly followed by the young guns Pete Blackler and Matt Handley bringing the score to 4.0. The final game went to Thurlestone where Gary D and Tim Dando pressed all the way to the final hole in a great matchup.

The realisation settled in, Wrangaton Boys had cemented their place in the next round of the Palairet Trophy, something they have never achieved in the many years of great golfers that have had the pleasure to play under the green Wrangaton Ram.

Much thanks goes out to Staddon Heights Golf Club for hosting the game, with great course conditions and a lovely after round meal. Also much respect goes to Thurlestone Golf Club for a well respected competitive game of golf. However, we must add in all due respect of course ! – never, EVER doubt the Wrangaton boys off until it’s all done and dusted, that’s all we need.

Quarter finals, here we come !
